Ford is redefining the traditional test-drive with a new promotion for the 2014 Ford Fusion that puts the emphasis on high fashion.

The Test-Drive Style pop-ups will debut in New York and Los Angeles in the spring.

Consumers can check out the Fusion and pick their "must-have" designer looks. The Fusion will be on display, but the emphasis is on walking around the vehicle, not driving it. Ford says the point of the exercise is to get consumers to "test out" designer fashions, while getting to know the car that competes with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

The new promotion is done in collaboration with Rent the Runway, where women get access to high-end styles for a fraction of the retail price.

From February through June, Ford and Rent the Runway are giving away a new Fusion and a $1,000 gift card for Rent the Runway's dream closet.

"We are joining forces to make great style available and seamless to the woman on the go," said Amy Marentic, Ford group marketing manager.

The 2014 Fusion is available in two new exterior colors that mirror the forecasted fashion trends for the year. The colors are Darkside, a charcoal shade, and Sunset metallic, an orange shade. The Fusion will also feature new interior leather color packages in medium soft ceramic and red on the Titanium series level.
