Curious case of my boot lock

I have a Fiesta Diesel vintage 2010. Intermittently my boot lock has started to unlock whilst I'm driving giving a dashboard warning. The bootlock 'claw' in the boot lid is secure and not wobbling at all; likewise the loop catch is tight. Neither have been adjusted lately and nor has the boot lid itself. I have a work-around which is to lock all locks from the dashboard switch before driving off.
However I'm curious as to why this 'unlocking' has recently started and what may be the cause?

Check the connector at the hood latch and it would not suprize me that you'd have to get a new latch (Body side) due to the connector failing and now triggering errors in the console - due to a compromised switch housing that is rusting away.

The switch might have an internal short. These things that are electromechanical are subject to the worst of moisture and vibration over an extended period of time.
